The Educational Opportunity Program combines access, academic support, and supplemental financial assistance to make higher education possible for students who have the potential to succeed, despite poor preparation and limited financial resources. The Educational Opportunity Program is intended to benefit first time college students whose past educational experiences and deprived life circumstances have resulted in levels of academic preparation and achievement that do not fully reflect their potential, but who, with adequate support, can succeed in higher education.
The SUNY Old Westbury - Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), is a state-funded financial, counseling, and academic support program designed to improve the access and retention of low-income and first-generation college students. The program helps students facing additional obstacles in higher education to succeed academically and graduate. EOP students are offered support services designed to assist them in overcoming obstacles that a new educational and social environment may present.
These include effective support services such as: Enrollment and Admissions Services, Financial Aid and Counseling, Books and Supplies, Academic Advising, Study Skills Development, Tutoring Services, Faculty Early Alert Assessment, General Counseling, Career Exploration and Planning, Referrals and, a Summer Program Experience
The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic threatens the sustainability and success of an already challenged program, by limiting access and availability of educational resources. Donations from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of EOP will help continue providing quality programs and services to our students who show promise for succeeding at the SUNY College of Old Westbury.
